Engine by Starling powers Tangerine Bank’s new business client offering
London, UK | 05 October 2026
Tangerine Bank, Canada’s original digital bank, launched an innovative proposition for business clients today, less than a year after signing an agreement to adopt Engine by Starling’s cloud-native banking platform.
The launch marks a significant expansion milestone for Engine, representing its third client deployment in another new market within 12 months. This follows the successful launches for Romania’s Salt Bank and AMP Bank GO in Australia.
Delivering Tangerine’s mobile-first proposition in under a year reinforces Engine’s track-record of consistently implementing in under 12 months, setting a new industry benchmark for speed-to-market.
Launching as ‘Tangerine Business’, the new offering is designed for modern entrepreneurs, bringing together banking solutions, connections, insights, and support they need to move their businesses forward at every stage of growth. Through a multi-phase rollout, Tangerine Business will offer a suite of products and capabilities, including the Tangerine Business Spending Account, Tangerine Business Savings Account, and Tangerine Business FlexiDraft™, which provides flexible funds to support business continuity and give entrepreneurs greater clarity as they navigate the demands of running a business. They will also benefit from innovative features like Spaces, which gives entrepreneurs the self-serve tools to effortlessly manage their money for saving, spending and proactive budgeting, using dedicated saving buckets.
Terri-Lee Weeks, President and CEO of Tangerine, said: “When entrepreneurs thrive, Canada thrives. Supporting them means creating intuitive banking experiences that help them move forward with confidence. With Engine by Starling’s cloud-native banking platform, we’ve built a modern technology foundation that gives us the flexibility to innovate faster, adapt to evolving client needs and continuously improve the experiences we deliver. The launch of Tangerine Business marks an important milestone in Tangerine’s transformation journey and our commitment to reimagining banking to help Canadians build momentum in their businesses and their lives.”
Sam Everington, CEO of Engine by Starling, added: “Engine’s technology and operating model is a tried and tested blueprint for building market-leading digitally-native banks. It is fantastic to see our software enabling ambitious, innovative and customer-centric banks all over the world. Launching Tangerine Business in less than 12 months marks our third client deployment in a third international market in under a year. It is testament to the collaboration between our teams, and Engine’s capabilities as a platform for innovation, in enabling banks to transform both customer propositions and operating efficiency.”
Tangerine is Engine by Starling’s first North American client after the British firm announced its North American global expansion, with offices opening in New York and Toronto last year, and most recently in Charlotte. Born out of the UK’s Starling Bank in 2022, the company currently supports Salt Bank in Romania, AMP Bank GO in Australia, and more recently, it announced a partnership with SBS Bank in New Zealand.
In November 2025, Tangerine, an award-winning subsidiary of Scotiabank (one of the ‘Big 5’ banks in Canada with assets of approximately C$1.5 trillion), entered into a 10-year agreement with Engine by Starling to upgrade its core digital banking system and deliver a next-generation banking platform for more than 2 million clients in Canada.
Members of the Tangerine Business Founders Circle – a group of business owners from a range of industries and business stages – will be among the first to experience this new offering, with a waitlist open for entrepreneurs interested in joining future rollout phases.
